knocking on your (collective) wood

I have always maintained that people who write blogs are arrogant, self-aggrandized opinion-pushers. That being said, I'm finally starting a blog :)

I wanted to get the feeling of what it might be like to write a column. Pursuing this ambition led me to Craigslist where I found solicitations for interns from such esteemed magazines as "Mainstream Erotica." Though I have nothing against erotica, I certainly don't claim to be an expert and decided I was terrifically unqualified for the job when I realized I couldn't think of a single way in which erotica could be considered mainstream. As far as I know, Martha Stewart is mainstream. Harry Potter is mainstream. Erotica is something you whisper about in the back row of third period study hall because someone's-older-brother-once-got-a-hold-of-some-and-no-he-doesn't-think-it's-in-the-same-family-as-arugula.

So I decided I would appeal to you all (the small group of loyal followers who have been reading my stuff for years and anyone else who wants to come along for the ride) and make my own blog-column. I'm hoping to get a feel for writing regularly without coming off as preachy or pedantic *knock on wood* and to prevent that, I'd love suggestions for topics from you guys. I'm happy to write about just about anything. Even erotica. As long as we're not pretending it's mainstream.
